When Will Social Security Disability Get Their Stimulus Checks

The American Rescue Plan was signed into law in the year 2021 and included a third stimulus check for all US nationals falling within income limits covered by the legislation. If you are a recipient of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, you must have received your stimulus check by now.

This information may be helpful for anyone who is yet to receive the third stimulus payment check or either of the previous two stimulus checks. At Law Firm, a (Social Security Disability) SSD advocate can help you find answers to all questions about receiving stimulus checks.

Eligibility For Receiving Stimulus Checks

Taxpayers who filed a federal income tax return in 2019 or 2020 and reported adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less are entitled to receive a $1,400 check in the third round of stimulus payments. The adjusted gross income limit for an individual filing a return as a head of household is $112,500. On the other hand, married couples filing joint returns of up to $150,000 in adjusted gross income are eligible to qualify for the maximum stimulus payment with reductions made for exceeding the stated limits.

Stimulus Payments for Those on Disability Benefits

If you filed an income tax return for the year 2019 or 2020 tax years, you should have received their stimulus payments either through a direct deposit in your bank account or by check or debit card. The direct deposit will be made in the bank account designated in your tax return for the purpose of receiving a tax refund.

These payments, referred to as “economic impact payments,” were to be processed by the IRS in the beginning stages of March 2021. However, anyone who is receiving SSDI or SSI payments but has not filed an income tax return need not file it only for the purpose of qualifying for stimulus payments.

The IRS used information supplied by the Social Security Administration (SSA) about SSDI or SSI recipients to process stimulus payments. If you have not received the third stimulus payment, you can check its status at the website specifically set by IRS for this purpose.

What To Do If You Did Not Receive the First or Second Stimulus Payments?

In case you did not receive the first or second round of stimulus payments, there is a way to resolve it. You must file an income tax return for the tax year 2020 and claim the 2020 recovery rebate credit for the amount to which you are entitled.

Lost payments can be traced by the IRS. If you find that IRS records indicate a stimulus payment being made to you, a request can be made to trace it. Tracing will take different lengths of time depending on the mode in which the payment is to be made-

  • Five days from the date of a direct deposit that your bank did not receive.
  • Four weeks in case of mailed checks.
  • Six weeks if your check was delivered to the wrong address.
  • Nine weeks if your check was delivered to a foreign address.
